I had no idea that a themed month of writing to you would be so well received! Thank You!  The feedback for my support for Boobalicious and focus on Breast Cancer Awareness has been INSPIRING {Hazel from Vancouver, yes! I will definitely continue to focus on women’s issues and you should definitely go to Boobalicious Vancouver},  MOTIVATING {Agnes from Germany, I agree,  I should write to my readers more often} and EMOTIONAL {Marie-Hélène in Montreal, it is a blessing to do what I am doing and I am humbled by what it means to you}.

My hope for YOU with SHE SHOULD KNOW™ is that the information or ideas I provide encourage you to take a proactive approach to your very precious life!  I believe that while you cannot control everything in life, the things you can control should be treated with intelligence, respect and value; especially where your health is concerned.  Because my focus this month is Breast Cancer Awareness,  I thought it would be a good idea to talk about Breast Cancer prevention and the actions you can take to reduce the risk.  I have put together a list for your consideration {some of it may seem familiar, remember our Fall Tune Up? Part 1 & Part 2,3 }:

  • DO NOT SMOKE! Women who either smoke or inhale passive smoke may have as much as a 60% increased risk of breast cancer
  • DO BREAST SELF EXAMS {BSE}, you are looking for anything that feels abnormal for your body. It is important to begin self-exams while you are healthy so you will be able to recognize any changes. The best time to do a BSE is right after your period
  • EAT WELL, keep to a high fiber, low fat diet.  Women who eat the most red meat have 88 to 330% higher risk of breast cancer
  • EXERCISE, just 30 minutes of aerobic activity 3-5 times a week can lower the risk of breast cancer by 30 to 50%
  • TRY TO USE NATURAL HOUSEHOLD AND PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS Makeup, beauty and household cleaning products often contain chemicals linked to cancer.
